News from the Wireless

December 15, 2020

Hi there Miss Fisher Fans! Did you miss us? We missed you! Wow, I have to say, 2020 has been a very strange year indeed. Time seems to have lost all meaning. Is it August? April? December?! How is it December? If we had spent the year having wonderful adventures instead of trying to stay safe, maybe it wouldn't be such a shock that the year is almost over.

We all know that 2020 started off well, with the world premiere of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears in Palm Springs, California. Then the Australian premieres and an amazing starting run in the United States that saw huge numbers of independent theaters selling out. When COVID hit and we were all forced home and apart, we made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Miss Fisher Con. It hasn't been easy to keep living the Phryne way, living life to the fullest, but even on the darkest nights, there are glimmers of hope. Vaccines are being approved and distributed. Protocols for the summer are looking very good. And the Adventuresses' Club of the Americas has decided to move ahead with the 2021 Miss Fisher Con.

Nonmember registration for Miss Fisher Con 2021 opens in January

Beginning January 1, 2021, limited general registration will be available for Miss Fisher Con 2021 in historic Richmond, Virginia. This year we’re starting sessions on Thursday afternoon, followed by an opening reception Thursday evening, and then sessions all day Friday. Saturday morning will be for socializing and for the Adventuresses’ Club of the Americas (ACotA) annual business meeting. The Miss Fisher Con 2021 committee is busy planning activities for Saturday afternoon and evening.

The member registration price is $210, and nonmember will be $250, and includes:

Book news for Death in Daylesford

As you may (or may not) know, Kerry Greenwood’s latest Phryne Fisher novel came out on November 3... alas, that was the Australian release date. The US release date appears to be June 1, 2021. Can’t wait that long? Be on the lookout early in the new year for an opportunity to win an Australian version of the book--apparently there are some differences--signed by our favorite maven of mystery herself, Kerry Greenwood!

Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries a go-go

We also have great news about Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries! After a long lock-down in Victoria, physical production of the second series (season) has officially resumed! The second installment of MOD was greenlit earlier this year with an approved 8 1-hour episodes. Geri Hakewill and Joel Jackson are reprising their roles as Phryne’s niece Peregrine Fisher and the smitten police detective James Steed. The rest of the cast of Adventuresses are expected to return as well.

Essie wins an AACTA!

On November 29, Essie Davis won a well deserved Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA)

award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Babyteeth! The film swept the AACTA Awards also winning Best Film, Best Director (Shannon Murphy), Best Screenplay (Rita Kalnejais), Best Lead Actress (Eliza Scanlen), Best Lead Actor (Toby Wallace), and Best Supporting Actor (Ben Mendelsohn).
