News from the Wireless

June 5, 2021

Hi there, fellow Miss Fisher Fans!

Can you believe that it’s June already? This year seems to be running past faster than a Hispano-Suiza carrying two prime suspects, a companion, and a lady detective!

It’s just over one month till we are getting back together in person for the 2021 Miss Fisher Con in Richmond, Virginia! Our list of sessions is looking good, and we’ve got some great events lined up. For safety reasons, we’re limiting the number of attendees this year, but there are still a few in-person and virtual slots available - won’t you join us? (If you’re a member of ACotA, you get a discount on your registration, plus a special discount from one of our vendors - check it out! Not a member yet? Join us today!

Two VIP guests this year!

This year at Miss Fisher Con, we’re thrilled to welcome Roger Lanser, the director of photography for all three of the original MFMM series and Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears. Roger is a delightful human, and he’s excited to talk about what it’s like to be the man behind the camera on this show. He’ll be taking some questions from the in-person con attendees as well. I’m hoping for tales of behind-the-scenes shenanigans!

Roger Lanser and our president, Bianca McCarthy, at last year's premiere of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears in Melbourne.

In addition, we’ve just recently wrapped an interview with Geraldine Hakewill, Ms Peregrine Fisher from Ms Fisher’s MODern Murder Mysteries herself! Geri’s interview will be aired simultaneously during the in-person session and via Crowdcast for our virtual attendees. I loved the first series of this 60s spinoff, and I’m looking forward to watching the second.
Geraldine Hakewill as Ms Peregrine Fisher. Series 2 is coming soon to AcornTV.

Two sponsors this year!

We also have two sponsors this year - first, AcornTV is sponsoring a showing of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears, which will take place at the beautiful Byrd Theatre in Richmond. For many fans, it could be the first time seeing this movie on the big screen, since last year’s US premiere ended early due to… *waves hand* everything. So get ready to dress up in your best late-1920s finery (or your favorite early 2020s comfies, whichever you prefer) and break out the popcorn as Phryne takes on the world!

Our second sponsor is the US publisher of Kerry Greenwood’s books, Poisoned Pen Press, who has gifted us with a chapter excerpt of Death in Daylesford, the newest Phryne Fisher novel! In addition, Poisoned Pen Press is holding a giveaway - they’re bundling a copy of Phryne’s first adventure, Cocaine Blues, with her newest, and you can enter to win one of five pairs. Whether you’re starting your collection or completing it, you can’t win if you don’t enter!

The gorgeous cover of Death in Daylesford by Kerry Greenwood. Can't you just see Essie in that dress?

We’re excited to get this community together at this year’s Miss Fisher Con - we hope you’ll join us, in person or online!

Cheers,
Sarah
