News from the Wireless

To our dear fellow Miss Fisher fans,

A note on COVID-19

The safety of our Miss Fisher Con attendees is our top priority. In that spirit, the ACotA board will follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) when it comes to holding our annual convention. At this time, we plan to hold Miss Fisher Con as scheduled. If that changes, we will inform the membership and all those who are registered as soon as possible. We also understand that the lingering effects of the closures may affect fans’ ability to attend, so we are extending our registration refund date to April 30, 2020.

Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears

Although the limited theater run for Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears began last weekend, many of the theater screenings have been cancelled as we all practice social distancing, as have the London premiere and the showing at the Helsinki International Film Festival. We hope that these screenings will be rescheduled, and we’ll keep you informed as we have any news. Every Cloud has put together a screening schedule that will help us all stay informed - if and when it becomes safe to see this movie in the theaters, we hope you all will. The more tickets that are sold, the better our chances for getting a second movie.

But if in-person screenings disappear, don’t despair! The movie will be streaming on Acorn TV in North America starting March 23. Not on Acorn TV yet? Use the code CRYPT for a one-month trial!

Acorn is also taking preorders of the DVD and Blu-Ray, though they are currently backordered. We’ve also heard that UKTV’s Alibi will premiere the movie on April 10 at 7pm. We hope to have more international streaming news soon!

Living room premieres

Please join the Adventuresses’ Club, the Miss Fisher Philes podcast, the Every Lady Needs a Hobby podcast, and the Adventuress Podcast on Monday, March 23 to make your own living room premiere. No rules, but we encourage you to get fancy, get Phryne, and post pictures of how you do to social media with the hashtags #LivingRoomPremieres #MissFisherMovie and #MissFisherAndTheCryptofTears.

ACotA members, we’d love to invite you to join us in the member Slack chat (members, go to that page and log in to get the link. Not a member? Join us!) on March 23 - we’ll start the virtual red carpet at 5:30 pm US Pacific time. Each of us will cue up the movie on Acorn TV and we’ll start together - bring your own drinks and snacks - at 6:00 pm. Discussions before (no spoilers!), during, and after to be undertaken as you choose.

We hope you’ll join us for this special virtual event - it’s a great way to feel the community of fans while still in your own homes. Let's enjoy ourselves. We deserve it.

The Adventuresses’ big Australian adventure

As you might know, five of the eight ACotA board members were able to be present in Melbourne for the premiere showing of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears, and we posted photos of our adventures on Instagram and Facebook! The movie itself was wonderful, and the Adventuresses’ Club sponsored a champagne reception at a fan showing and party organized by Adventuress Zanna White and her co-conspirator Gina Seldarius. It was a fantastic event, and one of the best parts was watching the movie in the company of other fans - we recommend it, whether real-life or virtual.

Champagne, anyone? More than two dozen fans met to celebrate and watch the film.

The delightful Anthony Sharpe (our own Cec Yates!) joined us at the afterparty.

MISS FISHER CON UPDATE

Although, as we said before, we're keeping an eye on the state of the world, we're continuing to plan for a great Miss Fisher Con. And to that end, we have news! We’re thrilled to announce that the Saturday night special event at Miss Fisher Con will be a screening of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears at the gorgeous Byrd Theater, which was built in 1928. Tickets will be available separate from con registration, and will include a pre-screening soiree - feel free to bring a friend! We’re also working on a post-film meeting place where folks can get dinner or a cocktail and discuss. We’ll set up a ticket link on our website as soon as we can.

Registration is still open, and our con hotel still has king rooms available. We hope to see you all there!

Cheers,
Sarah
